28 Weeks Later: Logic

“The story of Oedipus, who outwits the Sphinx, kills his father, marries his mother, brings a plague to his city, and then stabs out his eyes.”

oedipus- infection/humans (represented by the father in 28 weeks)

outwits the Sphinx- humans create a thing that flips nature/tries to eliminate some negative element and that infection creates some crazy bullshit that affects everyone and causes their imperfections to overtake them(Sphinx is their humanity)

kills his father- the fucked up result of humans toying with shit that reveals their imperfections weakness/rage/insecurity (Don abandoning/killing his wife? later pursuing his kids? Doesn’t want anyone to know that he was affected, and is therefore affected HARDER)

marries the mother- the technology “works” with their mother ([mother] is “unaffected” by the bullshit, she can triumph over ‘rage’ or insecurity or misgivings or anything despite her infection)

stabs out his eyes- basically, humanity stabs out its eyes to get rid of the plague/exterminates everyone/stops trying to SEE even though there are still important things to see (that people are uninfected and trying to live, that there are two people that could CURE everyone, etc). Also, this relates to the eyes of the kid + mother, they love despite the Rage, oedipus/the father keeps trying to gouge them out because he can’t triumph over his own fears for love.

and a nice visual:
